news 12-2-07: A number of changes to the site, finally! It's been an extremely busy year since opening our new shop; apologies to the three of you who actually look at this page for the complete lack of updates in the past half-year. It's a handful being owner / roaster / barista / web designer! First off, shipping is now figured by weight, which should bring an end to shipping price mistakes once and for all. We started using flat-rate boxes on certain orders after the ridiculous rate hike, and this should figure for those, and other packages, more accurately. Whew. Holiday zazz and year-end panache: And of course, new coffees over the past couple months: I'll be sending out a holiday email in the next few days that will contain approximately the exact information you've just read, and then we'll be seein' you next year. Thanks for your part in making this one the most exciting we've had. And of course, as always, happy holidays, however you choose to celebrate! -Jason and Sharon 5-14-07: Major pain on shipping, from both ends. US Postal jacked rates, way, WAY up, to help make it less likely that you'll order from us. The freight charge on our latest coffee order was also jacked way, WAY up, so we're going to have to raise our prices slightly too, to help make it less likely that you'll order from us. Siiiiggghhhhh. 2009 can't get here fast enough. 3-17-07: We've settled into the new shop, and have a whole rash of hot new coffees: Papua New Guinea Kunjun Estate, Kenya AA Tembo, Yemen Mokha San'ani, a very fresh Sumatra Mandheling, Tanzania Mount Meru and Indian Mysore Nuggets. Try them all! Also, we've been promising pictures of the new shop and construction thereof for a long time, so we've decided to start a Flickr page and start postin' stuff. Keep on checking back, because we promise to continually update. 1-9-07: Roaster is moved, all inspections passed. Opening day for our new shop is Monday, January 15. Not making a big deal of it until I can make some new space on the page for some red-hot photos. :) 11-19-06: Added Peru Organic Cepicafe...likely the last new coffee of the year. Good stuff. 10-11-06: Long time no see! We've been working hard on our great new retail space...more on that very soon. As for what's new, we have a couple of coffees you're sure to enjoy. Check out our Colombian Mercedes Supremo and Ethiopian MAO Yirgacheffe "Horse" immediately! 6-27-06: More new coffees! We've gotten in our big spring shipment, gotten roasts tweaked, and here they come. Introducing a new espresso for '06: Tribal Medicine Organic. This is our first organic blend, and will probably only be around for a little while, barring a miracle. We also have a bunch of new Single Origins: Sumatra Organic Mandheling, Nicaraguan Dipilto Prodecoop, Kenya AA Mtaro and Ethiopian Organic Natural Sidamo. These are all great new beans, and the Nicaraguan in particular will really knock you out. The site has also been generally tightened up. You'll notice that we've eliminated our drip blends...we're aiming for a little more purity, less bastardization. Also getting the axe is our message board; thanks to all who posted, and a hearty "feh!" to the spammers who targeted it. Coffee Emergency, Leaner and Meaner in 2006. :) 3-9-06: Added several great new coffees to the list: Bolivian FT/Organic Cenaproc, Colombian Mesa de los Santos Reserva Bourbon, Sumatra Mandheling PWN, and Kenya AA Decaf. Our quality keeps increasing, as does the number of organics we stock, which makes us very happy. We think you'll be happy when the brew hits your tongue, too.
12-12-05: We're excited to announce that Outside Magazine has featured us in their January issue, on newsstands now. We're mentioned in the Go List, just a few pages inside the front cover. Many thanks to the people who made it happen...our first national publication. 12-4-05: Two new coffees, and man, are they good: Kenya AA Masai and Ethiopian Longberry Harar. We're diversifying our supply line, and the payoff has already started. You'll love this stuff. Also, year two of the Holiday Sampler. A very pretty little package and a great way to set your loved ones up with some great coffee for the holidays. 11-4-05: Festivus is back! 11-3-05: We've added a couple great new single-origins to the list in the Latin American department, Guatemalan Huehuetenango MAM and Colombian Inza Cauca 16 Screen. Both really fabulous cups, and the Colombian in particular is a very special single-farm coffee that will knock your socks off. 10-22-05: We know that a lot of our customers are almost exclusive espresso drinkers, so we've gone ahead and added a very nice decaf blend we call Unleaded Espresso. If you're like me, you don't want to stop drinking coffee just because it's almost bedtime, and this stuff will sate your cravin'. 10-3-05: We're pleased to announce the addition of Baker's Candies chocolate to our catalog. This stuff is legendary here in Nebraska, it goes great with coffee, and you're going to love it. We'll be giving free samples of it in every order for a limited time, so give it a try. 9-20-05: You'll notice the banner on most pages of the site regarding our planned ASPCA donation...I've been intending to get it posted for the last couple weeks, but the banner just went up today. That doesn't mean we won't be donating the last few weeks' worth, though. :) Feel good about helping a doggie and order some beans. In other news, we're going to be gone for a few days, as we're attending the annual NASCORE show in Denver, CO. We're not setting up as an exhibitor, but rather just going to enjoy the show and hopefully learn a thing or two. This will be our first industry trade show, so Sharon and I are both pretty excited. As noted on all the bean pages, orders received between Wednesday 9/21 and Sunday 9/25 will ship on Monday the 26th. Thanks for understandin'. 8-15-05: The Summer Special is now over. Thanks to all who helped us make the hot months successful! Also, please feel free to listen to the favorable reviews of two of our coffees at the CoffeeGeek Podcast. And while you're at it, go vote to keep them on the air and rated high! 7-28-05: We have a couple of great new coffees in stock, Panama Berlina Organic and Colombian Water-Process Decaf. Check 'em out. Also check back in upcoming weeks for a new decaffeinated espresso blend...it's something that has been asked for, and something that we're developing. And finally, we're still running our Summer Special, so get in on the savings. Great deals. 6-29-05: Okay, so I spoke too soon about the pictures. 6-29-05: The New Bag is here. It's so pretty and sealed up, it'll make your head explode. Also at the top of the newness list is CBX Dark, an extremely tasty new darker-roasted espresso blend that is so good, it will make your head implode. That's some pretty graphic imagery. Many of the month's goals have actually been accomplished. Others are still on the way...pictures of the roaster, espresso machine, etc. have actually been taken, but posting pages which include them requires effort. Sorry! 5-31-05: Coming soon: New packaging (including larger "quantity discount" bags), CE merch & schwag, new single origin espresso notes, formal tests on Code Brown, and PICTURES....of the shop, roaster, espresso pulls, and other fun. Gimme a month, but do check back! 4-22-05: Message board! 4-20-05: Our shop is right on the edge of finished, and you might notice a difference in the coffee...we've started firing up the new Diedrich, with great results. This smooth 'n gentle roasting method is bringing out many more nuanced flavors, a vast improvement in all our product, including the famous Code Brown. With the new shop comes a few new coffees, notably our excellent Bolivian Organic Cenoproc Co-op and Kenya AA Mariene. These are both powerhouse coffees, and the Bolivian is a total Central American Revelation. Definitely a bean you've got to try. Our new ad has started running on CoffeeGeek, a site you surely already frequent if you're here. They've given us nearly all of our business, so we thought we should give some back. :) A message board *really is* coming, but we've gotta upgrade our hosting to do it. Heavy sigh. Keep watching! -Jason 1-26-05: We actually have very big news...As a result of our customers' great help in making 2004 a stellar first year, Coffee Emergency will be moving into a great new warehouse/shop here in Lincoln, and we've also decided to take the plunge and vastly upgrade our roaster. In the next couple months you'll see some changes in our packaging, the beginnings of a "marketing campaign," new additions to the website, and other assorted goodness. We look forward to bringing you even better quality product, along with the same as-personalized-as-humanly-possible service you've come to expect. CE is Deep In It, and there's no turning back now! We hope you'll come along with us for the ride! Other hot hot news - We've received a couple great new coffees, 100% Organic Timor Maubesse and Ethiopian M.A.O. Harar "Horse." Both are very unique...read the descriptions, buy the beans. You won't be disappointed. I know that in the previous, weak iteration of this news section I promised a message board, and believe me, it's coming, as soon as I beat down the gods of procrastination. :) -Jason |

about us
The original
plan was to retail drinks at various events and anywhere else we could
here in Lincoln,
NE. We also had/have equipment to set up a booth, and we spent all
of summer 2004 selling French press coffee, frappes and Italian sodas
at our local farmers' market, which made for some very early, very busy
mornings. We segued At the very beginning, we were using beans from a friend's roastery here in the state, but it didn't take long to move into roasting our own, and we haven't looked back. We've built up a nice selection of very tasty coffees from around the planet, and selling roasted beans has, obviously, become our focus.
Hope you enjoy the new site, and we'd love to set you up with some of our luscious beans. You won't find fresher coffee anywhere. |
